Whitehall departments to cut budgets for defence
Whitehall departments are being asked to find more money for defence spending, potentially affecting public services like hospitals and schools. Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy confirmed this after Defence Secretary John Healey resigned over a smaller-than-expected funding deal. Healey was 'horrified' by a £13.5bn increase over four years, having sought £18.5bn for the investment plan.
