Migrant hotels won't pay England's new tourist tax
Hotels used by the Home Office to house asylum seekers will be exempt from England's new tourist tax, under rules the government published on Thursday. The levy lets mayors charge a percentage of the room rate with no national cap, but hotels serving as someone's temporary main residence are one of just four exemptions. Every other short stay, from hostels to holiday lets, falls within scope.
