MI5 chief says Britain faces greater danger than in 2001
Sir Ken McCallum, writing in the Independent on Friday for the 25th anniversary of 9/11, said the UK now faces state threats such as Russia and China alongside enduring mass-casualty terrorism. He called security a "shared national endeavour" and warned the next strategic shock may already be forming somewhere agencies are not looking. Al-Qaeda's capabilities are a "fraction" of 2001 levels, he said, but the ambition remains.
