Meta settles US states' lawsuit over addictive social media for $16.7 billions

Meta Platforms has reached a settlement with states across the US for $16.7 billion over claims its Facebook and Instagram platforms were designed to be addictive for young users. The agreement comes during an ongoing federal trial in California, where 29 states alleged consumer protection breaches. Meta has agreed to introduce new protections for teens, which will include restricting daily usage and preventing nighttime use.
