Lords call for AI 'kill switch' powers in UK

A group of peers is proposing the government get powers to deactivate powerful AI systems and shut down data centres if they threaten national security. Lord Tim Clement-Jones, a Liberal Democrat, proposed the concept through an amendment to the Cyber Security and Resilience Bill. The "kill switch" would be a last resort to stop a runaway system from compromising national infrastructure.
