Chancellor's adviser tells the government that more spending will not drive economic growth
Alexandra Depledge, an adviser to Chancellor John Healey, posted on LinkedIn that the government must empower private businesses instead of relying on public money. She noted that rapidly expanding firms make up just 0.6% of smaller businesses but generate about 55% of their revenue. The message lands before the 28 October budget, where Prime Minister Andy Burnham has declined to rule out tax hikes.
