Lord Mandelson reportedly played a key role in securing Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s appointment as the UK’s trade envoy despite objections from then-Prince Charles, now King Charles III. The monarch had reservations about his younger brother’s suitability for the diplomatic post, but Mandelson argued that Andrew was “well qualified.” Andrew served from 2001 to 2011 before later controversies, including his recent arrest on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
