London councils sending homeless families far away
Due to the housing crisis, London's local governments are progressively dispatching families experiencing homelessness to locations far removed across England. Government ministers are currently exploring prohibitions on this practice, spurred by discoveries that certain local authorities had operated outside legal boundaries when relocating disadvantaged households. This comes as a London homeless women's service, the Marylebone Project, is closing in September after 90 years.
