Labour selects councillor Angeliki Stogia for Gorton and Denton by-election
The Labour Party has chosen Manchester City Councillor Angeliki Stogia as its candidate for the upcoming Gorton and Denton by-election on February 26, 2026. Stogia, representing Whalley Range, defeated Bury Council leader Eamonn O’Brien in a vote by local members. The contest follows the resignation of former MP Andrew Gwynne due to ill health. Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham had previously attempted to stand but was blocked by the party's National Executive Committee.
