Tesco apologizes for placing Welsh signs in Cornwall supermarket
Tesco apologized after mistakenly installing Welsh language signs at its Helston supermarket in Cornwall on February 4, 2026. Shoppers spotted signs for "bwyd môr" (seafood) and "tatws melys" (sweet potato) instead of the correct Cornish translations "boos mor" and "aval dor melys." Councillor Loveday Jenkin criticized the error but welcomed the intent. Tesco immediately removed the incorrect signage and announced plans to install accurate Cornish bilingual signs soon.
