BP profits more than double as Middle East war boosts oil
BP delivered a strong first quarter as new CEO Meg O'Neill unveiled her first results. Underlying earnings of $3.2 billion more than doubled the $1.38 billion posted in the same period last year, beating analyst forecasts of around $2.7 billion. The surge was largely driven by oil traders capitalising on crude price spikes linked to Middle East conflict.
