Iran Could Pick New Supreme Leader Within Days
Iran's foreign minister said the election of a new supreme leader could happen as early as this week following the killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in the opening US-Israeli strikes. However, Israel struck the Assembly of Experts building in Qom, the body responsible for choosing the leader, in what officials described as an attempt to disrupt succession. Iranian state media confirmed no casualties. The assembly has not chosen a new leader since 1989.
