England and Wales to Cap Ground Rents at £250 Annually
The government has announced a cap on ground rents in England and Wales, limiting them to £250 per year for existing leaseholders. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer highlighted the positive impact this will have on many individuals. This reform will be formalized in the upcoming Leasehold and Commonhold Reform Bill. Ground rents were previously abolished in 2022 for most new residential leasehold properties. There are approximately five million leasehold homes in England and Wales.
