Sheikh Hasina Sentenced to Death as Tribunal Alleges Mastermind Role
Bangladesh's International Crimes Tribunal found former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina guilty of crimes against humanity on Monday for her role in a deadly crackdown on student-led protests in July-August 2024. The 78-year-old fugitive politician was tried in absentia as the mastermind behind the violent suppression that killed up to 1,400 civilians. Hasina fled to India in August 2024 after being ousted from power during the uprising.
