Major incident declared after train derails in Cumbria, but no injuries reported

A “major incident” has been declared after a train derailed near Shap in Cumbria, on the West Coast Main Line between Penrith and Oxenholme. All lines on this section between Carlisle and Preston are reported blocked, with widespread disruption across services. Emergency services, including the North West Ambulance Service, are at the scene and confirm there are currently no injuries. The operator advises passengers to avoid travelling north of Preston today while investigations continue.
