WHO Finds 37% of Cancers Preventable

Millions of people worldwide could avoid a cancer diagnosis, reducing a major global health burden. WHO and IARC's 2026 analysis reported over 7 million new cases in 2022 were linked to avoidable causes. Tobacco was the leading preventable cause, making up 15% of all new global diagnoses; infections accounted for 10%, and alcohol for 3%.
