Japan: magnitude 7.6 quake triggers tsunami warnings

A magnitude 7.6 earthquake has struck off the coast of eastern Aomori Prefecture in Japan.. 6-magnitude earthquake struck off Japan's northeastern coast near Aomori Prefecture at 11:15 PM Monday, generating tsunami warnings for coastal areas of Aomori, Iwate, and Hokkaido. The Japan Meteorological Agency recorded seismic intensity of upper-6 in Hachinohe and issued evacuation orders as waves up to 3 meters high are expected to hit vulnerable coastal regions within hours of the initial tremor.
