Assisted dying bill expected to fail as Lords run out of time
The Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill is widely expected to fail after peers tabled over 1,200 amendments, making Lords scrutiny impossible to complete before the session ends. The government's Lords chief whip confirmed no extra debate time will be given, with only five sitting days left. Lord Falconer, the bill's Lords sponsor, said it was "very very difficult" to proceed without fundamental change in the upper chamber. All stages must clear by 24 April or the bill falls.
