English universities could get big fines for free speech failures
People raising free speech concerns at English universities will soon have a new, free way to complain. The Office for Students (OfS) will operate this first-of-its-kind complaints system from the new academic year. Universities in England could then be fined up to £500,000 or 2% of their income for failing to protect free speech, with some even risking public funding loss.
