UK private dentistry: 23% fee hike sparks watchdog review
The Competition and Markets Authority has launched a market study into the £8 billion private dentistry sector following a call from Chancellor Rachel Reeves, who cited hidden costs, overtreatment and lack of patient information. Private dentistry now accounts for over two-thirds of the market, with one in five adults relying on it — often because NHS treatment is unavailable. Consultation fees have risen more than 23% since 2022. Outcomes could include enforcement action or regulatory changes. Consumer and professional views are sought until 19 March 2026.
