Iran says it hit a US tanker with missile in Persian Gulf

Iranian state television reported that naval fighters struck a US tanker in the northern Persian Gulf on Thursday morning. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said the vessel was hit by a missile and was on fire. The IRGC also claimed full control over the Strait of Hormuz — a critical waterway through which roughly 20% of global oil and gas passes — adding further pressure to global energy markets already disrupted by the ongoing conflict.
