Iran closes Hormuz, striking US embassy as Mideast air travel halts.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz on 3 March 2026, striking energy infrastructure across the Gulf as the combined death toll in Iran and Lebanon surpassed 600 people. Two Iranian drones struck the US Embassy in Riyadh, causing a limited fire and minor damage. President Trump said the military campaign was projected to last four to five weeks but had the capability to run far longer.
