Paris bans public alcohol, but not just for the heat

Paris has banned drinking alcohol in public places as temperatures hit 36C, following a record 40.9C earlier in the week. This comes as Europe grapples with a heatwave linked to hundreds of deaths and strained hospitals. Authorities say at least 55 people have drowned in France since June 18 trying to escape the heat.
