Instagram removes end-to-end DM encryption May 2026.
Many users may feel uneasy as their personal messages will stop being secure from company access. Instagram will remove end-to-end encryption for direct messages, a change first noted in a Help Centre update. This means the company can check messages for illicit content and share information with legal bodies. The new policy begins after the eighth of May in 2026.
