HS2 cost could reach £102.7 billion
The HS2 railway project faces significant cost increases, with initial services now delayed by at least three years. Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander stated that first trains from Old Oak Common to Birmingham Curzon Street aren't expected until May 2036. The overall cost range is £87.7 billion to £102.7 billion, with slower speeds now planned to save £2.5 billion.
