UK stops student visas for Myanmar, Afghanistan, Cameroon and Sudan
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood suspended student visa applications from Afghanistan, Cameroon, Myanmar and Sudan, citing a 470% rise in asylum claims by students from those countries between 2021 and 2025. The Home Office described the move as an unprecedented emergency brake. Work visas for Afghan nationals were also suspended. The rule change is due to take effect on 26 March.
