Healey Rules Out Capital Gains Tax Rise in Budget

U.S. Department of Defense, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons

Chancellor John Healey has ruled out raising capital gains tax in his first Budget next week, despite pressure from Labour figures, including allies of Prime Minister Andy Burnham. Cabinet ministers Wes Streeting and Louise Haigh had previously backed higher rates. Healey fears wealthy investors could leave Britain or delay selling assets, which could leave the Treasury worse off. The Budget is due on 28 October.
