Artemis II crew now farther from Earth than any human in history
The four Artemis II astronauts broke the all-time distance record on Monday afternoon, passing 248,655 miles from Earth - the mark set by Apollo 13 in 1970 - and continuing to a maximum of 252,760 miles. Before the flyby, Mission Control played a recorded message from the late astronaut Jim Lovell, who died in August 2025, saying 'Hello, Artemis II! Welcome to my old neighbourhood!'
