Police left Nottingham killer free for 10 months
A public inquiry heard that Nottinghamshire Police failed to act on an arrest warrant for Valdo Calocane for 10 months before he killed three people in Nottingham in June 2023. The force's temporary deputy chief constable described the lapse as a 'serious, systemic, operational failure' and issued an unreserved apology. Lawyers for the victims' families said any suggestion the arrest would have made no difference was 'cowardly and insulting'. The inquiry is expected to hear evidence until June, with a final report due in 2027.
