Khan: World Cup online racism 'out of control'

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has cautioned that online racism targeting England players during the 2026 World Cup has become "out of control". Football's Social Media Protection Service identified nearly 90,000 abusive posts in the group stages, a significant increase from the 2022 tournament. Ofcom, the UK's communications regulator, is investigating tech firms' handling of illegal hate speech.
