France bans social media for under-15s from September

France has implemented the first prohibition on social media access for children under 15 in a European nation, with new accounts being blocked from 1 September. The prohibition will extend to existing accounts starting January 2027, with platforms being tasked with age verification. President Emmanuel Macron championed the bill, which passed parliament on Tuesday, as a major reform to protect children online.
