Driverless ships could make Liverpool Port greener
New driverless ships could soon make Liverpool's busy port much cleaner, potentially cutting carbon emissions and easing road congestion for everyone. Marine technology specialists at Liverpool John Moores University are assisting in the development of standards for these self-governing ships, with the initial commercial vessels potentially becoming operational within the next ten years. For example, the world's first autonomous ship, the Yara Birkeland, already replaces 40,000 diesel truck journeys each year.
