Formula 1 has decided to cut the maximum race distance by 15km for the 2027 season, reducing it from 305km to 290km. Cars will use more fuel due to a shift in power ratio, and some teams wanted to reuse chassis with fixed fuel tank sizes. A new "hard stop time" will also replace the three-hour maximum to finish disrupted races, allowing more flexibility.
