1968 Earthrise photo helped create Earth Day.
The iconic Earthrise photograph, taken from space, significantly influenced the environmental movement and changed how people viewed our planet. The Apollo 8 crew captured this image in 1968, showing Earth's colours against the desolate lunar surface, which led to Earth Day's creation. Commander Frank Borman described the Earth as the only colourful thing in the universe, with Bill Anders capturing the famous picture.
