UK taxpayers to pay £1.3bn for Universal park

British taxpayers will provide £1.3 billion in funding for the new Universal theme park planned for Bedford. Comcast NBCUniversal plans to inject more than £5 billion into the development, with construction set to begin shortly and the facility aiming for a 2031 opening. The resort is expected to create nearly 20,000 jobs during its building phase.
