EU makes WhatsApp open to rival AI chatbots
The EU wants to stop Meta from harming competition in the growing AI market, ensuring people can choose which AI assistants they use. The European Commission, the EU's competition enforcer, told Meta to allow other firms' AI chatbots on WhatsApp for free, following an investigation started in December 2025. Meta has five working days to comply or face fines up to 10% of its total turnover, and says it will appeal.
