English Channel: Eight days without a migrant crossing. What changed?

Total crossings for the year have fallen by about 40% against the same stretch last year. Officials last logged a completed journey on 17 August, just a week after a single 15-metre dinghy carried 230 people. Since Andy Burnham took office as prime minister in July, border teams have counted 3,428 migrants making the trip.
