England to build over 70,000 social, affordable homes under £39bn plan

Ministers announced that an initial £10bn will be allocated to construct over 70,000 social and affordable homes throughout England during the next decade. The £10bn allocation is the first stage of a wider £39bn government programme aiming for 300,000 such homes nationwide. Housing charities welcomed the plan but noted it still won't meet the huge demand for social housing.
