Electricity grid upgrades must speed up or bills will rise, watchdog warns

The National Audit Office warned consumers will pay more unless the UK government quickens its large-scale upgrade programme. A £70bn plan is ongoing to modernise Britain's power network to carry more clean energy to homes. The watchdog said constraint costs, paid to switch off wind farms, could reach £7.8bn annually by 2030 without faster action.
