Ethiopia has witnessed electric vehicles dominate the local market following a strict government ban on importing fossil-fuel automobiles. By the year 2024, battery-powered models accounted for more than 60 per cent of all fresh vehicle purchases in the nation. Officials updated the rules in mid-2025 to cover assembly kits, pushing buyers toward modern cars that are more reliable than older imports. This rapid growth mirrors trends in other emerging markets that are currently outpacing advanced economies.
