Electric cars hit 60 percent of sales in Ethiopia
Ethiopia has witnessed electric vehicles dominate the local market following a strict government ban on importing fossil-fuel automobiles. By the year 2024, battery-powered models accounted for more than 60 per cent of all fresh vehicle purchases in the nation. Officials updated the rules in mid-2025 to cover assembly kits, pushing buyers toward modern cars that are more reliable than older imports.
