The government has told East Midlands Railway to take immediate action to improve performance before the operator is expected to transfer into public ownership by the end of 2027. Problems with EMR's new Aurora trains caused delays, cancellations and overcrowding. The Department for Transport said the transfer process can start from 18 October. EMR plans to raise its Intercity timetable to 96% from 19 October.
