Liquid Trees: Algae-Based Air Purifiers for Urban Environments
Liquid trees, also known as LIQUID3, are urban installations using microalgae in water tanks to purify air and reduce CO2 emissions, acting as an alternative to traditional trees where space is limited. Developed by Serbian scientists, one liquid tree can replace two 10-year-old trees. These photobioreactors, holding 600 liters of water, use solar panels to power a pump circulating air. They also function as benches with phone chargers and lighting.
