Channel crossings spike: 989 arrive after two weeks of none

The recent public holiday accounted for the arrival of over ten percent of all people who have entered the UK from mainland Europe so far this year. Home Office data reveals that 989 migrants arrived in the United Kingdom within 14 vessels from Friday through Monday, occurring after nearly a fortnight without any such journeys. A £662m deal with France aims to boost enforcement against people smugglers.
