Cancer Survivor Speaks Again With NHS-First Artificial Tongue

Cancer survivor Dr Imogen Brooks has been fitted with what is thought to be the NHS's first bespoke artificial tongue. Surgery for squamous cell carcinoma removed most of her tongue, and later radiotherapy worsened her speech. A team at Guy's and St Thomas' built a cobalt chrome frame carrying a silicone tongue that clips onto her teeth. She has since passed her doctoral oral exam.
