Birmingham New Street evacuated after train fire during rail strikes

Commuters in the West Midlands encountered significant rail disruption on Friday, following a train fire which necessitated the clearing of Birmingham New Street station. The incident happened as West Midlands Railway services were already running a reduced timetable due to strike action by members of the TSSA union. The strikes are over rest day working payments, with no trains running after 7pm on Friday and starting after 7am on Saturday.
