Budget to Shield a Million Pensioners From Income Tax

Budget to Shield a Million Pensioners From Income Tax

Richard Townshend / UK Parliament, CC BY 3.0, via Wikimedia Commons

Chancellor John Healey is expected to use Wednesday's Budget to stop almost a million pensioners paying income tax on their state pension. The full new state pension is due to rise 3.9% to £13,036 next April, above the frozen £12,570 personal allowance. Those living only on it will get a matching tax-free allowance, but people with private pensions will still pay tax on extra income.
