Border bloodshed: UN warns of civilian catastrophe as Afghan-Pakistani conflict spirals

At least 42 civilians have been killed and 104 injured in Afghanistan as heavy fighting with Pakistan enters its sixth day, according to the United Nations. The preliminary figures, released by UNAMA on 3 March 2026, include women and children caught in the crossfire of airstrikes and shelling. The conflict has triggered a humanitarian crisis, displacing an estimated 16,400 households across provinces including Nangarhar and Kandahar.
