Great Britain is having its worst bluetongue season on record, with the virus confirmed at 3,472 farms and premises since July, more than five times the previous three seasons combined. Vets say the midge-borne disease is causing deaths, severe illness and breeding losses in sheep and cattle, with no direct treatment. The British Veterinary Association called it a major animal welfare crisis for many farmers.
