Network Rail is replacing overhead power lines at Birmingham New Street, which date back to the 1960s, as part of a £13m project. Avanti West Coast trains will skip the station, with buses running to Wolverhampton and Birmingham International. The station itself stays open, and normal services resume on 29 December, though more Christmas work is planned for 2027 and 2028.
