North-South divide deepens, challenges Burnham's plans
England's economic gap between its North and South is widening, despite government promises to "level up" the country. Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham will outline his economic vision on Monday, suggesting more regional power and a potential split of Treasury functions. Public investment figures show London received about £12,147 per person, while the North got £8,125, in the five years to 2019/20.
